Summer Night was luckily and forwardly placed In nearest attendance on the Hying pacemaker, caught the latter tiring and wore her down finally. Jeanne dArc, on the extreme outside from a Hying start, established a quick and wide lead and held sway after a wide turn to the final sixteentli and tired badly from there on. Ida I., from an inside fair start, was in close quarters and repeatedly shuffled back in the? middle running, but saved ground on the last turn and just failed to get up in a belated stretch rush. Queen Marguerite, from an inside slow start, had a rough journey and, after being crowded back, closed an immense gap in the last quarter. Adriuche rapidly improved her position into a forward contender midway of tlie stretch and tired, but finished gamely. Miss Alert, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap in a cracking effort. Imitator beat tlie barrier and, after brief prominence, dropped back. May Amelia loomed up menacingly in the first furlong of the stretch, but quit at the end. Fitz Herbert was reserved leisurely In behind the pacemaker in tlie early running, then drew tint as his rider pleased in tlie stretch and won pulling up. Rio Grande lost ground rapidly in the first three furlongs, then began to overhaul the early pacemakers, caught both two-year-olds tiring badly midway of the stretch imd drew into a fast going and close up second, but was handicapped by the starters twitch, which was fastened to his nose throughout. Fighting Bob ran In prominent pursuit from the start And loomed up menacingly In the stretch and tired finally, but outstayed Shannon decisively for third place. The latter outbroke and outpaced the others on sufferance for five furlongs, then tired badly. Cliff Edge was unexpectedly prominent for half of the Journey. Elfin Beau, fresh .and good, set tlie pace for half of the journey, hugged the rail and was taken back when the favorite made, the running, then came on with reserved speed at the end and earned a game second. Charlie Hargrave trailed loo far in the rear to get up when he made ills usual closing sprint and is extra good. Arasee broke slowly, but was whipped Into second place and patiently reserved there in the middle running, then challenged on the stretch turn, where the leader carried him wide, but held the latter safe all through and drew out to win in the final strides. Superstition, from a flying-start, made the running for nearly a mile before he seemed beaten and held on into a game second. Krikina got into third jxisition at the start and stayed there close up throughout in a cracking effort. Campaigner, badly outpaced by the leading trio, held on well in tlie closing drive. Alice Baird ran forwardly for seven furlongs and tired. Sir Cleges was hopelessly outpaced all the wa v. The winner was entered for ,000: ho bid. Hying Footsteps outbroke and outpaced the others for half of tlie journey and swerved badly on the turn, but finished gamely. Malltlne ran prominently throughout, but finished tiring and seems a non-stayer. Levengstoii, always well up, challenged for third place midway of tlie stretch, but tired finally. Odd Rose, inadequately ridden, made a very wide turn and finished well. Don Antonio, prominent early, failed to Lt.iy. Running Chance showed speed and is promising.
