DADDY GIP A LUCKY WINNER. San Francisco, al.. April 1. — Baddy Cip gained a lucky victory in the Cordelia Handicap at Oak land today over some of the best throo-voar-ohls in local training. He beat the barrier and was never headed, but just lasted to beat the fast-coming Chester Kruin by a nose. The sport was marked by close finishes. In the last race the first five horses were separated by narrow margins. Sweet Basil pot the decision from W. V. Brumby, with Pirectello third. Salali won Ihe two-year-old race treat Ban Ann in a hot finish. Misn Officious was a heavily supported favorite in the long -distance race, but J. It. Laughrey won easllv. Bucolic has lwen sold to the Uaisin City Stable and C. M. Polk has bought Smilev Metzner. Thomas II. Williams has turned over Big Chief to George W. Berry, and the liorse has been sent to Map* Pletk Farm to eater the stud. Mr. Williams having concluded thai his recent breakdown precludes the idea of again racing the horse.
