BILL AIMS AT ORAL BETTING. Senator Walker Introduces Measure at Meeting of California Legislature. San Francisco. Cal., January C. Coppertowu, well handled bv !. Garner, led all the way in the feature race at Oakland today. Fort Johnson was favorite for the race, but tired chasing Coppertown and Marchmonet outgamed him for second money. Well-hacked horses were generally successful. Sir John proved something of a surprise in the third race, when ho bent Kndymion II. and Lotta Creed. G. Archibald was fined 00 for being the aggressor in the altercation with E. -Martin yesterday. Martin was suspended for a week, with the exception of stable mount ft, for rough riding on Aunt Polly when Pete was interfered with. . The horse Dr. Dougherty was reinstated, having iHCii sold to W. J. Itourko. and the claim of Eugene Wayland, which led to the ruling off of the horse, having been satisfied. At Sacramento today Senator Walker introduced his bill which is directed against oral betting. Mr. Walker is one of the authors of the present law against bookmaking. H. A. Cotton has sold Captain Burnett to J. T. Strite and lias bought Lisaio from Early Wri-ht.
