RACING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST. New York, January C When It. II. MeCarter Potter shipped several carloads" of thoroughbreds from his establishment at Andover. N. J., to Kentucky some months ago. rumor had it that Mr. loiter had relinquished all interest in racing and breeding. Nothing could be further from the truth. While Knight of the Thistle and a big band of broodmares wen sent to the lSluo Grass state, Mr. Potter retains his ownership In them, and the cherry and black of the stable will be seen on the New York tracks during the coining season. Turfmen will regret to learn that James J. McLaughlin, a foremost trainer in these parts a few seasons back, was killed in the subway recently. Trainer McLaughlin developed and trained several high class stake winners alout ten years ago for .T. P. Krauer and A. L. Aste. Golden Maxim. Sadducee, .TAcU- Point and Caller wore among the fast horses developed by Mr. McLaughlin. i . ! I : . I . , 5
