MONCRIEF CROWDS BIGGER PATRONAGE OF PAST MONTH GREATER THAN THAT OF YEAR AGO. January C The official statement of the Florida Live Stock ami Agricultural State Fair Association for the last month of 1U10 showed an increase of 014 in the paid admissions as coiuiKircd with the same period of WOO. This speaks well for the interest that is being taken in the sport and the success of the meeting. Many thought that the increase in the price of admission would bo detrimental, but it has had the desired effect and has gone a long way in keeping out the undesirable element. , ,. There was a decided improvement in track conditions todav and faster time was recorded. The track adjoining the inner rail for about ten feet was rolled and the- rooting was good. Small fields went to the post. but. they were well-matched lots and live of the six linlshes found the winners under hard drives, with three of them first home by the smallest of margins. AVell-backcd horses swept the . card and three of the winners were favorites. The feature race, a .six-furlongs handicap, wont to tlie Beverwvek Stables three-year-old, Aldrlan,. which beat Alfred the Great a head. The latter was favorite and was ridden by Troxler. He showed in front at the furlong post, but faltered in the" final drive. The race was marked by much rough riding, for which Herbert, who had the mount on Donau. and Troxler, were hold at fault, Donau had the outside position at the post and when the break came Herbert cut across to the inside where the going was host. In doing so he jammed those on the inside and in the mixup Font was thrown against tne fence and went to his knees. Musgrave pulled up to keep from falling and the interference ruined his. mounts chances. Herbert and Troxler were each given a weeks suspension for their part in the matter. . , , MeCahev rode two winners. Monty w x lox and Agnar. The halter brigade were again active this after-pnoth Agnar. winner of the last race, was boosted S40O over his entered price of 400 by Guy Gray, but was protected and bought in by his" owner. Mark Antonv II., winner of the third race, was boosted 5 by a local horse dealer, who bid ; at a time. .Mark Antony II. was protected and bought in at his owners bid of 73. , Aspirin was excused from starting in the 411 third race. The horse was taken sick this morning with a slight attack of fever. Among the arrivals from the north today were Sim Dimel, Frank Tyler. Mel Stern and Colonel Tvlcr. Peter McGrath is expected tomorrow. Manager Browns next siiecial effort will be the putting on of a novelty race for two horses and two men. He will make the men run about twenty-five vards farther than in the last novelty race. Tnesdav, January 17, will be the next ladies day. Oil that day a race for mules will bo carded as a feature. These mules will be ridden by negroes at catch weights. The race for lady riders will be decided February 14. The contract between jockey llutwell and Count Lazaicff has been signed and forwarded. The date has been changed so that P.utwell can ride out the present, meeting. He will not have to leave until April 15 and the contract will expire November 1.1. llutwell will not have to do lighter than 110 pounds. He will take his wife to Russia with him.
