j SUSPENSION FOR JOCKEY DEAVENPORT, Victory of All Red After Judicial Warning Followed by Action by the Moncrief Stewards. Jacksonville, Fla., January C. There was activity in the stewards stand at Moncrief Park this afternoon, as a result of which two riders were suspended and notice was served on an owner to appear before them on Monday to explain the inconsistent running of one of his horses. The apprentice jockey Duun vas suspended for three days for rough riding on Herbert Turner in the first race. Then after All Ked.s excellent performance, when he ran thrce-iiuarters in 1:14 and beat the siieedy Fulford, the stewards again got busy. They had bad marks chalked up against J. Deavenport for his handling of the horse in his previous race when Eye White came from behind and beat him, and also for his ride on Mark Antony II. December 120. They were satisfied that the boy did not put forth his best efforts on those occasions and at the close of the afternoons sport came a ruling which brought Indefinite suspension for the rider. Oeorge Land, owner of All Bed. will be asked to straighten out his part in the matter satisfactorily. Before the horses went to the post in todays race. Deavenport was called into the stand and warned. The odds on All Bed then tumbled from 2 to 1 to S to .". The attendance this afternoon almost .equaled in point of numbers that of Monday last, and there was more snap to the sport than on any previous day of the meeting. There was a decided improvement in the track conditions and, while the track was not fast, the footing was firm and much better time was made than on any day this week. The ,500 Capitol Handicap, a dash of three-quarters, was provided as a feature. There were five starters, and the winner turned up in King Cobalt, which made a runaway of the race, winning by a nock in a driving finish with Edda. King Cobalt opened a commanding lead in the early stages and ran the first half mile in 47. but iri the final furlong tired badly. Guv Gray -boosted Idleweiss 00 over his entered price" of 1911.sh00, but the colt was protected and bought in by his owner. Mr. Gray then claimed Antenor out of the race for . .123. . News reached the track today of the death of jockey Lucien Lyne in Germany. Lyne was one of the leading riders in this country a few years ago. He rode the two Futurity, winners, Hamburg Belle and Savable, and an American Derby winner, Wyeth. W. S. Kansas Price has been engaged to train for S. II. Blonger and C. AV. Powell, who - will" race under the name of the ShamrockStable. Peter McGrath, AV. Beverley and Frank Tyler were among the layers that cut in this afternoon. Col. Bob Holloway arid , Robert McKeqv.er were visitors at Moncrief this, afternoon. Colonel Hollo-way came down from his .winter home at Green Cove Springs, while Mr. McKcever arrived from New York this morning. Jockey Butwell has arranged to leave here about April 1 for New York, where he will meet S. S Howland preparatory to sailing for Russia. Judge Murphy, who acted as agent in the negotiations here, has received the following letter from Mr. Howland. in which the latter wrote: "Mr. Daingerheld and myself are sending you herewith a contract for Butwell. signed by me as authorized by cable received yesterday from Count de Lazaroff. The latter shows his liberality in paying the expenses of Mrs. Butwell, as well as those of Butwell himself. lie has by all odds the finest stable in Bussia or Poland, and, I believe. Austria, and the last jockey that I sent to him which was a number of years ago remained with him two years and had nothing but praise for the way he was treated and for the liberality of Count de Laza-reff. Personally I think Butwell has been very fortunate in getting such a good opening, abroad, as they are not so easy to obtain at presept." Bob Co. was declared out of the Florida Special By John W. Schorr after the horse had been acquired out of a selling race by Clarence Davids. A protest lodged by -Mr. Davids lias been sustained by the stewards and Bob Co. is still eligible for the stake.. , , Jockey Bell, who suffered a broken, collarbone as the result of a recent fall, is improving. His shoulder is mending nicely and in about two or three weeks this capable apprentice will again be back in the saddle. Thirteen of the horses nominated for the American Derby were declared out, leaving twent3"-five ell-giblcs, as follows: Beverwyck Stables Special Brew, T. B. Condrnns The Nigger, J.
