CONSOLE BREAKS A RECORD REDUCES TRACK RECORD FOR MILE AND AN EIGHTH AT MONCRIEF. Silas Grump, Winner of Two-Year-Old . Dash, Responsible for Mizup That Spoils Race as a Contest Gossip from Florida Course. Jacksonville, Fla., January 10. Today was a half-holiday in Jacksonville and the General Leos Birth-flay Confederate Handicap was provided as the feature of a well-filled program. All but the second race resulted in keen contests, the last twq furnishing head finishes. Favorites won four races, the successful choices being Silas Grump, lima, 0 Km and Louis Ileil. Console won the feature race, which was at a mile and an eighth. He led from start to finish and had the margin of a length over Guy Fisher at the end. The mile and an eighth was run in l:r:!, a new track record for the distance. In the two-year-old race Silas Grump won easily and ran the quarter in. 22;;. He had an outside post position and cut across to the inside when the harrier was sprung, with the result that many or the contenders were forced into a jam along tho rail and their riders were forced to pull up. The interference ruined the race as a contest and the judges deliberated several minutes after the finish before they ordered the official sign to he lowered on the placing. There were some who looked for a disqualification, but the judges ev?dently took the view that some allowance must be made in these early two-year-old races. Hugh Pennys new apprentice, Olsen. rode his first winner when King Avondale beat Star Blue a nose in the fifth race. Dave Nieol had his first mount of the meeting in the two-year-old race, in which he rode Lord Leighton. H. Richards has sold the mare, Marie Hyde, to J. White, a Jocal man. Jockey J. Deavenport has taken an appeal to the board of stewards of the Southern Jockey Club and: he will be given a hearing in the next few days. MeTaggart was suspended by the judges for two-weeks for rough riding on Princelike in the sixth, race Wednesday. Jockeys Troxler, Fain and Hufnagcl were suspended by the starter, the former for four days and the others for six days. The judges finished up the Peep Over ease this! morning and decided that according to the rules Guy Gray had the option of either keeping or re-! tni-ning the horse to his former owneK Mr. Gray decided that he did not care to keep the horse, so turned him back to his former owner. Carlton G., owned by Lon Johnson, was kicked by another horse this Morning while being exercised :Mid six stitches were taken in the wound. This will throw him out of training temporarily.
