RACING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST. New York, January 19. J. W. Flynu. trainer of the racing stable of Fred Rose, the Peiinsylvanian who has established a breeding farm in Goochland County. Va.. near the town of Sabot, writes that he will take his .horses to Norfolk February 15, and prepare them there for the spring meeting of the Jamestown and Maryland Jockey Clubs. Mr. Rose laced at Norfolk last, fall with success, and the horses were shipped to Sabot to be wintered. In the Rose string are .Montcalm, Capsize, Osorine. The Golden Butterfly. Bang and Laughing Eyes. The stable prolmbly will be strengthened by the purchase of some young horses. Max Samuelson, who will be remembered by horsemen all over the country because of his connection with the late Ctipt. Sam Brown of Pittsburg, has forsaken the thoroughbred for the simple life. He lias a farm near Culpeper, Va.. aud his nearest neighbor is Jen. William T. Townes, proprietor of .Aftongieen Stud. Aftongreen is one of the best grazing farms in Virginia and General Townes is breeding successfully to the old Peter stallion. Potentate, sire of Taboo. The general was not about the eastern tracks much last suinniei. but he is training several likely two-year-olds for the spring meeting at Pimlico. One of them is in the Clabaugh Memorial.
