SOUNDING THE MISSOURI SOLONS. Jefferson City, Mo., January 19. Senator Thomas E. Kinney, leader of the Democratic majority in the Missouri legislature, is sounding the sentiment among the members of the senate and house on a proposed revival of racing in Missouri. Senator Kinney said today he had not definitely determined to introduce such a bill, but that lie believed it would be a good thing. "I am discussing it with members," said he, "to see what they think of it. My idea Would be to have a thirty-day meeting under the supervision of the state. A commission appointed by the governor should have power to step in and close a track whenever there is a violation of the law. I do not favor bookmaking. 1 favor following the Kentucky law. where the betting Is by machine, aijd . tin; favorite is determined by the. number of tickets bought. Nobody is . behind this movement. It was of my own mind without suggestion from any person, and I do not want the impression to get out that any of the old racing crowd in St. Louis lias anything to do with it. "I think it would be a good thing for St. Louis if we could have a short race meeting. If I lind after a further canvass that sentiment is for it. as I have already foimd, I will introduce the bill."
