ACTIVITY AT LEXINGTON KENTUCKIANS BEGIN TO PREPARE FOR APPROACHING SEASON OF RACING. Fifty Horses Added to the String: Quartered at the Kentucky Associations Course During the Past Week Gossip from Blue Grass Region. Lexington, Ky., February 4. Something like fifty horses were added to the strings of the trainers at the Kentucky Association course this week. Charley Patterson, of Ornament Taine, took up Incision, Swish, Big Claim, Lackrose, Leopold, Asbury, Frog and Artesian, all the properly of Col. W. 11. Apple-gate and W. G. Yanke, and in the next day or two he will take up three two-year-oTd fillies belonging to Charles W. Moons Jack Baker has taken up Jeff Bernstein, Joe Morris, Alice Baird, St. Aloysius and half a dozen two-year-olds, among them two belonging to P. J MH-lett, of Paris. They are both fillies, one bv Cotton-town the first of the get of that good racer out of Red Light, a young daughter of Tammany aud Halo, the other by Knight Errant, out of Amaranth. Cot-tontown will be in the stud at Paris this spring and will be mated with one or two of the six mares now-owned by Mr. Millett and a number belonging to friends and neighbors. The Millett mares are Lota Duffy, Lena C, Amaranth, Red Light. Miss Do via and Lauretta Burke, the dam of Cottontown. Cafoo-can, the dam of K. T. Shipp, died at Mr. Millet fs place three or four weeks ago. James Stevens bas taken up eleven two-vear-olris, the property of Sheriff Dan W. Scott, C. il. Carter and others. Bit ford Hall, belonging to R. II. Anderson, and Prince Gal and Firing Line, the propertv or George M. Oriom. have been added to the string of jf. C. Milam. The last named two will bo turned over to Mr. Orioni when be eoines north in the spring. Hal Price Headley has sent in from Beaumont I arm three two-year-olds to bo trained bv Will Me-Danlei. The string that French Brooks is preparing to take to Louisville for Clay Brothers numbers sixteenton two-year-olds and Ocean Bound. Marcelliis. Cowrien, Single File. Outiau and Sea Sprav. The older horses came up from the farm in Bourbon County a few days ago. They arc all in excellent shape. Jack Williams, the colored trainer, has taken tip Longridge and three two-year-olds, the property of Messrs. Charles II. Berryman and John McClintock. Ihey are by the Ulmendorf sues, Greenan, Water-boy and Toririington. Tho latest foal at the. St. James Stud is a ba" st: Savin Aquilla, the grandam of Sir Martin. 1 his is the first filly that Aqtrilla has foaled since Lady Sterling dam of Sir Martin, and Edwin Ruff, the St. James secretary, says it is a mighty fine foal. Aquilla will be mated back to St. Savin. John Shannon, who had to return to Lexington because of illness at Juarez, is convalescent. Entries to tho four stakes closed last Wednesriav for the Kentucky Associations spring meeting are coming iu very satisfactorily. James P. Ross, who has been looking after matters in the secretarys . otlice during the absence of Garrett I. Wilson" in New York, says the stakes will till better than tin directors of the association expected.
