CHAPULTEPEC SHOWING EXCELLENT FORM. El Paso, Tex., March 22. A well balanced card which attracted some of the better class of horses now here, was offered today and despite cloudv skies, which threatened rain as race time awiroaehed, a fair-sized crowd made the trip to Terrazas Park. Ihey were well repaid for their constancy, as the races were Interesting throughout and form well observed as attested by the success of three.of the public choices and two well backed second choices, the handicap at seven-eighths or a mile was the special feature of the card. The field contesting it was well balanced. Spohn. from the stable of W. 1. Anderson, was accorded the position of favorite only to bo beaten by the much Improved Ohapulte-pec, which appears to have regained the form which in tho past made him a stake performer of no moan pretension. He forced the pace the entire journey and easily drew clear at tho end. The ring assumed more than its usual lively aspect today through the valued addition of Barney Sehrei-ber. J. Johnston acquired ownership of Marian Casev and The Peer, purchasing the pair at private sale before the races today. For foul riding tactics in the first race, jockev J. Howard was fined 0 by the stewards and suspeifderi lor the rest of the meeting. His offense consisted of crowding jockey T. Rice into the fence, causing a severe injury to that riders foot as well as barilv interefering with the chances or his mount. Canapa". The injury received by Rice was so serious that it necessitated the cancelling or the remainder of his mounts during the day. The second race developed a plunge on Arrowshaft, from the stable of W. A. Wat kins. The mare showed quite a bit of speed, running prominently to the stretch, but tired badly in the final racing. W. Cahill reported to Barney Schreiber today that the great horse. Jack Atkin. which was turned over to him for treatment for bad hoofs, was going along nicely and had shown so much improvement that hi had sent him on the track for a stiff work-out ami that the horse showed no ill effects from the same on his return to the barn.
