THE FIRST DERBY TO BE RUN THIS YEAR A- The first Derby of the present year will he run at Jacksonville next Saturday. The event in question is the badly-named American Derby, at a mile and a quarter. It is a race of involved conditions, but its guaranteed value of 1911.sh,000 gives it importance in the minds of owners and it will lie contested by a field of fairly good three-year-olds. If known to be well and on- edge there is no doubt that Jimmy Rowos Lahore would be the favorite If sent to the post, although he must make considerable weight concessions to all oilier eligibles. Unluckily there is doubt about his running because of a reported attack of skin disease of r weakening character. Whether lie starts or not, it Is thought that The Nigger, Governor Grav. Special Drew. Rertis, Dr. Duenner, -Mud Sill, Star Charter, County Tax and Messenger Roy are sure to "go to the post, and in Oracle, Antenor. Rarney Igoe, Jack Denman, Joe Kenyon and Pliaroah there are other possibilities. All around, it appears that at least ten will contest the race, if not more. The conditions of the event are as follows: : "The American Derby, for three-year-old foals f 100S: 5 to accompany the nomination; 5 additional if -not. declared out -be fore January 1s t, 1011: 50 additional to start.
