RAIN AFFECTS EASTERN TRAINING. New York, April 7. Rain has seriously interfered with training operations on the Long Island tracks this week. At Belmont Park the enclosed barns of August Belmont, Richard T. Wilson, the Brown-leigh Park Stable and Richard F. Carman come in handy under such conditions, as horses can be kept at light exercise. It. F. Carmans big string is not as forward as It would be if the weather was .seasonable. Bonnie Kelso, Magazine, Horizon, Meridian, M. Cambon, Starbottle, Rogon, Merry Lad. Stare and other horses have worked halves in 52 aud thereabouts. The eleven two-year-olds in Mr. Carmans stable are getting a steady preparation, but nothing in the line of a speed test lias been accomplished. Ontario, which raced in the colors of D. Stevenson last season, Is in excellent condition and fit. Trainer William Hogan is again handling the big bay son of Sempronins Royal Approval. A few-days ago Ontario, with jockey Fred Williams in the saddle, worked four furlongs in 00 over the main track at Belmont Park, ne Is a typical crosscountry horse, and although he schooled in a capital way a couple of seasons ago his racing has been confined to the flat. If. L. Leos Travel Light, a two-year-old bay filly by Jean Bereaud, lias improved considerably of late. In a recent tlirce-elghths trial she went the distance in 30 seconds.
