MILTON YOUNGS RACING STRING. Lexington, Ky., April 13. For the first lime in several years Col. Milton Young, :vi,cc-chalrman of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, mid one of the veterans of the running turf, will campaign n string of thoroughbred racers this season. Colonel Youngs return to the turf will be hailed with satisfaction by the older class of horsemen, who remember the blue and white of the Young stable when Bootjack, Ascendor, Bestinan, Bankrupt, Lamplighter and a host of other fleet thoroughbreds bore them to victory. Colonel Youngs stable of fifteen liorses will be trained and raced in the name of W. L. Lewis, one of the best-known trainers in the blue grass region, and who in the past has successfully trained for William Gerst, George Holle, J. N. Camden aud other well-known owners. Mr. Lewis developed Colloquy, Haubridge, Polly Prim and other good winners, and two years ago trained Crystal Maid, oue of the fleetest two-year-old fillies iu the west. Both Mr. Lewis and Colonel Yoilng think highly of the hitters two-year-olds, which have been in training at the track of the Kentucky Association here since early in the year. Three of them are said to have worked especially well. One of the most highly prized youngsters is Toddling, a brown colt by Toddington Countess Pepper. This colt Colonel Young purchased as a yearling at the sales here last October. Another is Curtain Call, a brown colt by Plaudit Follow. The latter Is a well-put-up youngster for which Colonel Young paid E. T. Graves .,550 last fall after the colt had worked a sensational three-eighths at the local track. Others In the string were bred by Colonel Young, and they trace their ancestry back to the fleetest sires and dams that ever lwro the azure and white of the Young establishment. Their names follow: Clubs, ch. c, by Royal Flush III. Meltou Mowbray. Curtain Call, b. c, by Plaudit Follow. Forty-Niner, eh. e, by Marta Santa California. Gay Bird, or. c. by Oiseau Belle of the Day. Inciter, ch. c. by Cesarion Incendiary. Syringa, br. f. by Cesarion Lorelei. Toddling, b. c, by Toddingtou Countess Pepper. Viley, br. e. by Marta Santa; Maid of Fortune. York Lad, br. c, by Yorkshire Lad Addie. Zarion, b. c, by Cesarion Carrie Jones. In addition to these youngsters Colonel Young has a quartet of three-year-olds, of which he expects a great deal this spring. They will be raced here by Mr. Lewis aud then will be taken to Louisville and Iitouia, and later on in the summer to Canada. They are Mr. Ham. a son of Requital; Lone Ben, by Ben Stronie: French King, whose sire is the distinguished Etlielbert, and LavJiiia, a fine-looking daughter of Sir Dixon. A few yean; hack when Colonel Young was the owner of the famous McGrathiaua Stock Farm, where the great Hanover and other kings of the thoroughbred world roamed the blue grass pastures, Jio was the largest breeder and one of the leadiug owners iu the racing sphere. At one time there wore more than 000 mares at McGrathiana.. all owned by Colonel Young. Today his thoroughbred holdings number only alnjut sixty mares, twenty-live yearlings, the stallions Mexican and Lconidas and the horses he intends racing this year.
