MAMIE ALGOLS RACING CAREER AT END. Noted Long-Distance Racer Breaks An Anklo in Training at Lexington Track. Lexington. Ky., April IS. Mamie Algols racing career is likely at an end. This nine-year-old daughter of Algol and Miss Mary, broke one of her ankles while working over the Kentucky Association course this .morning and when she can stand shipment she will go to the Casey ranch in Texas. .Mamie Algol was bred at Ashland Farm by T. C. McDowell, who sold her as a yearling for i?25. Her staying abilities made her famous and her chief distinction lies in the fact that after racing Los Angeleno to a nose finish for the Thornton Stakes. -ir miles, ft Oakland, in .March 1007, she forced the same horse to a drive to beat her again by Hie margin of a nose in the Thornton Stakes Renewal at Oakland a month later, the time of that race being 7:10i, which was the record for the four miles at Oakland until Dig Dow set it at 7:15 in 100S. The Kentucky Association track was fast this morning and there were several good moves, with many visitors to see the work. The best at one mile were Oracle. 1:45; Golden Egg. 1 : 103 ; Joe Morris, 1:4G. Camel worked three-quarters in 1:105. and Plan Ryan in 1:17, the average clip averaging arouud I: IS. The smartest moves at half a mile by two-year-olds were: -Peeping, 40; Limousine. 40; Louise Alexander. 40j: Polly D.. 40,?. and Nello. 50. Joe Knight worked a quarter in 23 and Star Jasmine the same distance In 21J.
