A WELL-KNOWN WESTERN RACING MAN. AVhen the Burns and AVaterhouse stable was playing an important part in racing some years back. Clarence AVaterhouse was frequently referred to as the silent member of the firm on account of his quiet and unassuming demeanor. No matter how great the prize or tlie glory which one of the Burns and Waterhouse horses won in some turf fixture. Jlr. AAateihouse was never known to become excited to the pitch of raising his voice alove its normal tone. It has been his way through the years he has devoted to the sport of racing thoroughbreds. Jlr. AAatethouse takes a keen interest in the sport, however, and no one likes to see his colors in front better than he does.. He came originally from Sacramento, Cal.. and in the early nineties formed the famous racing stable of Burns and .Waterhouse with Colonel Dan Burns. :t prominent California politician. Their lirst renowned racer was Lovdal.. which ran second in the Burns Handicap, named after the senior member of the firm.- on two occasions. Burns and Waterhouse got together an extensive stable rapidly and won recognition on tracks throughout the country, with James JlcCormiek as trainer and Eddie Jones as the stable ojekey. Shortly after starting in racing Burns and AVaterhouse embarked in breeding with an establishment near Sacramento. Since then they have transferred to other locations. Colonel Burns has practically retired from the sport, and this season the Burns and AVaterhouse colors have been racing in the junior partners name and colors.
