SOCK SAND NOT TO GO ABROAD YET. New York, July 22. Pending final action on the Gittins bill August Belmont has canceled an arrangement he had made for the shipment to England and Franco of several of his thoroughbreds at the Nursery Stud. While abroad Mr. Belmont arranged for the sale of the Nursery yearlings bv Tattersall at Newmarket, while the great stallion Bock Sand and a number of his American broodmares were Iwoked for France, where the chairman of the Jockey Club maintains a breeding establishment. All of these plans were altered with the passage of the Gittins bills in tlie Senate at Albany and Bock Sand and the mares will remain at the Nursery Stud for the present at least. The legislation in recent years against racing has alreadv depleted the thoroughbred farms considerably more than fifty per cent., and the contemplated shipment from the Nursery Stud would be another serious blow to the interests of the turf. Only a few years ago Bock Sand was purchased In England by Mr. Belmont for 25,000, and his presence ia- America meant much to the thoroughbred Interests. He Is a magnificent Individual and a triple crown winner, having taken the Two Thousand Guineas, the Derby and the St. Leger for Sir J. Miller In 1903.
