HILDRETH S HORSES IN PUBLIC SALE. An event out of the ordinarv is sot for the Sheeps-head Bay sales paddock Thursday, September 7. the dispersal sale of the powerful racing stable owned by Samuel C. Hildreth. The sale is to bo conducted by the newly formed Powers-Hunter Company. Curiosity will be rife in regard to what prices will bo realized by such great blazing stars of the track as Fitz Herbert, Novelty. King James and Zeus, to say nothing of the lesser lights of the foremost American stable. Three years back such a band o horses so sold would have induced such eager competition as to threaten or surpass precedents. The outcome in these days of sparse opportunities of winning any considerable sums of money in racing is an interesting problem. Apparently it Is not a favorable time to sell such horses at public auction, but the result may bo as surprising as Hildreths determination to sell. There is abundant wealth represented in racing even if the sport Is much reduced in volume, and there are many optimists who expect more prosperous times on the turf. Some of these may lock horns iu contest for possession of the Hildreth gems with results pleasing to the discouraged Samuel. Particulars of the sale are disclosed in the advortrsing department of todays issue of Daily Racing Form.
