GOSSH? FROM KENTUCKY SOURCES. Louisville, Ky., August 2S. Rain which fell dnr-iug the latter part of the week just ended greatly benefited the local tracks, especially at Churchill Downs, where the dust was thick owing to a long dry spell. Among the horses of note that worked through the mud were Pinkola, High Private. Round the World, Royal Report. Mary Davis, Judge Walton, Keep Moving. Royal Captive, Bettie Sue and Mockler, all of which looked good. The horses here seem to have been vastly benefited by their rest since the Latonia summer meeting ended. Sickness has disappeared from the stables and an unusually healthy condition prevails at the present time among the S00 or more horses quartered here. The running race at Churchill Downs on Labor dav, during the progress of the Elks aviation carnival, has been named the Elks Christmas Charity Purse. Acting Secretary Ed Jasper of the Louisville Racing Association, is looking after the event for the Elks, and has arranged to close the entries for the purse on Saturday, September 2. He is confident he will secure a good field of starters among the horses now at the two local tracks. John Masterson, who has charge of the shipping of horses for the" Labor day meeting at Chicago, returned here from Latonia Saturday. He shipped from Latonia to Chicago six horses Alma Boy, Jacobite, McAndrews. Jeanne dArc, Montclair and Frog Eye, all of which will come to Churchill Downs from Chicago after September 4. A carload of horses is due in Chicago from Dos Moines, Iowa, in time for Labor day racing, and the best of these will also find their way to Churchill Downs early next month. They are horses that have been racing on the Canadian half-mile tracks and are now at Des Moines, where a running meeting will be In progress this week. ;
