FAVORITES SCORING AT PIMLICO. Five Purses Taken hy First Choices Flamma Continues, to Run in Improved Form. Baltimore, Md., Octolcr 13. The followers of form are certainly prospering at Pimlico. Five more favorites won this afternoon and the large crowd present profited handsomely. The Severn purse and the Rennert Steeplechase were provided as attractions and the latter event brought out the society folks in force. The best finish of the afternoon came with the running of the third race, in which the Wilson colt Altainalia beat Bounder a head. The race was a selling affair and trainer T. J. Healey was forced to stand an advance of 05 to retain the colt for his employer, 11. T. Wilson. Theodore F Coles, acting for C. C. Smithson, was responsible for the bidding. Algic, which retains his form in spite of advancing ago, showed a fine performance in the Itennert Steeplechase, in which he shouldered top weight of 1G3 pounds and beat a good band of jumpers in handy fashion. The greatly improved Flamma scored another victory in the fourth race, which she won with case. It was Flamnias third race in three successive days. She was closer up than usual in the early stages today, and taking an easy lead rounding the far turn won with much in reserve. The colors of Chas. Kohler, who races under the name of the Ramapo Stock Farm, were seen in front for the first time this season when Chickasaw won the sixth race. Chickasaw was favorite, and with C. II. Shilling in the saddle, lie made a runaway affair of the race and won 1j- a length from Dull-enre after a mild stretch drive. Shilling was in good form. He piloted three winners aud finished second with Bounder. .1. Woods Gartli was a visitor at Pimlico this afternoon. It was his first visit to the races since his retirement from the turf last spring. He is now au engineer on the Southern Itailroad. John Huggins, the veteran trainer, was also, among the new arrivals. He will probably remain for the rest of the meeting. It is the purpose of William Garth to make a stitplechaser of Joe Madden, the horse he purchased a few days ago from S. C. llildretb. Joe Madden will be sent to the Garth farm at Charlottesville. Va., next week and schooled across country during the winter months. The filly Wrap, in Albert Simons stable, died this morning. She was sick when unloaded from the tars on her arrival from Toronto. Pete, the steeple-4 chaser that fell in his last race, also died this morning as a result of Ins injuries. Harry Nelson, son of Judge Francis Nelson, has received u letter from jockey Ted Hice, who went to Germany several weeks ago to ride for James McCorinick. Rice sends good reports of the racing in that country and is well pleased with his engagement. He rode the winner of a 5,000 stake a few days ago and will remain in Germany until November 1, when he will return to this country. It is Rices purpose to ride during the winter at Juarez.
