CASSATT COLORS CARRIED TO VICTORY. Spring Board Wins Race for Prominent Pennsyl-vanian at Pimlicc Alt amah a Disqualified. Baltimore, Md., October 17. AAelJ supported horse? won a majority of the races at Plmlico this afternoon. The racing was above the average, and in three instances the finishes were exciting, the winners scoring by narrow margins. Captain E. B. Cas-satt, of Chesterbrook Farm, scored his first victory of the meeting when Spring Board, bred by him, easily captured the opening race from a good band of youngsters. Spring Board, which is by Aeronaut. Captain Cassatts stallion, won the Clabaugh Memorial at Plmlico last spring and todays victory was tlie first the colt has scored since then. Trainer Simon was doubtful about the horse going the distance, but he won eased up. There were no mutuel tickets sold on Spring Board for either first or second place, and the backers of Bwana Tuinbo and Turbine in the niutuels profited. It. T. AViisois took his usual purse with Amalfi in the second race, which won in a hard drive from Cliftonian, mainly lKJcause of McCahoys good finish. Altamaha, another of Mr. AVilsons horses, got to the finish first in the fourth, but be was disqualified for fouling. Altamaha cut across his company shortly after thv start and, according to the stewards, nearly knocked down some of the other starters. Dinna Ken. which started in this race, bled after going three-quarters and was pulled up. Tiie sixtli race really was the feature of the program. It was for horses owned in Maryland. Arir-ginia, Pennsylvania, AVest Virginia and the District of Columbia, and in it Saniuet Ross, a member of the Jockey Club, who lives in AAashington. scored with the three-year-old Dr. Duenner. The horse just did stagger home In advance of Homecrest. a long-priced contender. Flamma. the second choice, was to have liecn ridden by McCahey. but the boy could not make the weight and Rowley was sub-, stituted. This probably cost Flamma the race, for Rowley was of no assistance to the filly. A good-sized field of illustrious "lias beeus" started in the third, a race for non-winners this year. They included Electioneer, a winner of the Futurity, old Dreamer, Sweepaway, Onager and Theo Cook, but none of these won. Matt Allens, three-year-old Shackletou got the purse rather comfortably. John Duffy has purchased of Robert AValden the two-year-old filly Chilton Trance, and she will run in the formers interest tomorrow. J. Howard Lewis bought Scarus from M. J. Cromwell and will try to teach him to jump. C. C. Siulthsons Judge AValser, a promising two-year-old that started in the AValden, was another of those that suffered from H. Dugans,i-ecklessiiess. The colt has a bad leg ami probably will not race again this year. TV J. Healcy will rest the horses of It. TV AVilsou after the Plmlico meeting and then ship to Jamestown, where lie will wind up "the season. The colors of James Rowe, which were worn by Sweepaway in the third race, were famous at Plmlico more than a quarter of a century ago when they were carried by the horses owned by Colonel McDaniels, a noted Maryland turfman. They have not been seen at Pimllco since 1S70. but were recognized by some of the old-timers. Mr. Rowe claimed the colors some years ago. Recent work-outs at Pimlico.
