His initial success came in the second race, which Housemaid won rather handily after au early struggle to dispose of the erratic Donau. Stinger followed with a victory over Lcamcnce in the handicap at one mile and an eighth, and Prince Gal added the climax by a seusational triumph over Eobby Boycr in the closing dash. It was the first time that Prince Gal and Stinger hail won for Mr. Hallen-lieck. The first named was secured by the claiming route from George Odom and cost hB,500. Stinger was bought from C. C. The feature was the Rosedale Stakes, worth ,340 net to the winner, and proved only a romp for the speedy Azyiade, which led her opponents for the entire trip and won eommandingly. Gates, by a magnificent stretch sprint, took second place from his stablemate, Kaiser. Mocklers victory in the fifth race was unexpected, most of the support in the race being accorded to Stone Street and Console, which latter pair brought up in third and fourth places, respectively. The opening purse went to Merode in a stirring finish with George Oxnard, Floral Day being third. Todays visitors included Messrs. William Gcrst and G. II. Ilolle, who came from Nashville, Tenn. The successful three-horse combination, consisting of Stinger, Mocklcr and Prince Gal, paid -15.10. The , two-horse backers naming Merode and Housemaid received 2.45 for . Considerable interest was manifested this morning by trainers and work watchers in the performance of Sprite, which was sent a preliminary three-quarters mile trial in preparation for her match with Worth.
