MESSENGER BOYS STURDY LINEAGE. Messenger Boy belongs to the No. 12 line of the Bruce-Lowe breeding system, which is the family also of Lexington. As the latter sired the dam of Ten Broeck, it will be seen that the three record-breaking four-mile horses of Kentucky are in a measure related. Mary Zcna, dam of the Kentucky Endurance Stakes winner, is by Farandole and is out of Cotton Queen, by imported King Gallop. The latter is out of War Mantle, by Sir Martin and is a half-sister to the brilliant race mare Lady Schorr, winner of the Tennessee, Latonia and Kentucky Oaks. War Dress, the next dam, was by War Dance and is the dam of Appomattox, a stake winner of fourteen races. The next dam is Brocade, the dam of Burch, a stake winner of forty-two races and he also produced Jennie B., Bertha B., Long Cloth and others of note. Then comes in Messenger Boys pedigree, a line of noted mares, such as Enncngarde, by Lightning, the dam of Lib-ble L., sister to Ruric, by imported Sovereign, tli" dam of Grinstcad-Lcvity, by imported Trustee, the dam of Edric and Brenna, and the Tranby mare, the dam of Vandal. There are twenty-six crosses in Messenger Boys pedigree on the side of his dam and his sire, imported Mazagan, is as fashionably and fully as stronglv bred. Other four-iuller.-; of note in Messenger Bovs line ou the dam side are Monarchist, which Iteat Harry Bassett at this distance and Janet, which still holds the Keutucky four-mile record for a mare, 7:25. So. after all, blood told in the recent running of the Endurance Stakes at Churchill Downs and goes to prove that high breeding is always invincible in such a contest. Louisville Courier-Journal.
