AMERICAN HORSES SUCCESSFUL IN RACING IN ENGLAND . In the course of racing in England from August 23 to September 30, inclusive. American-bred horses were placed in fifty-nine races, of which they won twenty-one. In the list of winners is an item of interest to those in Chicago whose habit it was to attend the races when racing was one of the most popular diversions of Chicago. This is the fact that Maydale appears as the winner of two races, the Efilmton Nursery Handicap at Manchester and the Selling Nursery Handicap at Derby. She is a daughter of the Futurity winner, Oruiondale, and the old-time local favorite May W., and appears to have inherited a good measure of the hitters great speed. She belongs" to the. former crack jockey, Sam Loates, and was the first winner he sent to the post in his new avocation as a trainer, and, quite naturally, a favorite in his esteem. Loates has paid several visits to this country and has a turn for things American. Maydale having done well for him. he purchased several American yearlings last summer from consignments sent over by American breeders. From a monetary point of view the most important of the twenty-one races won were the Peveril of the Peak Plate, won by Whisk Broom at Derby September 8; Rous Plate, won by Outram at Doncaster September 14 Fitzwilliam Stakes, won by Waterwillow at Doncaster September 12; October Handicap, won by Dalmatian at Newmarket September 27; Trial Selling Plate, won by Waterwillow at Newmarket beptember 2i- Norfolk and Suffolk Handicap, won by Oversight at Yarmouth September 20; Juvenile Handicap, won bvtbe Adam Wild Thyme filly at Ayr September 21; Lonsdale Welter Handicap won by Pearldiver at York August 29, and the Elvaston Nursery Handicap, won by Blarney Stone at Derby September S. Of these the most valuable was the Peveril of the Peak Plate at a mile, in wliich Whisk Broom, with 120 pounds up, gave weight and. a beating to" such crack handicap horses as Sunspot, 122; Mustapha, 122; Ayr-ihSnChelvs colt 92; A vermis. 102; My Collar, 107; Eudorus. 10S; Hainerton, 99; Master Bill, 8. ; Sobi-eki 09- Minter 92 and Humorist, S9, the performance ranking with the best of. the year In haudlcaps.
