NOTES OF THE TURF. There was some betting of the oral variety In connection with Thursdays experimental "betlcss" race meeting at a New Orleans half-mile track. The experiment will be continued this afternoon. Business men in Jacksonville have begun to agitate for a new law permitting betting on horse races. They say the absence of racing at Moncreif Park this winter will cause a change of sentiment in favor,of the sport. ew York Sun. The Calgary Exhibition Board has decided Miii race program for next year calling for 7,750 lir purses, divided about equally between the harness horses and the thoroughbreds. A stake of ,000 at one mile and a quarter will be one of the features. James R. Kcencs Sweep, winner of the Futurity of 1900, was shipped yesterday from Sheepshead Bay to Lexington, Ky. Fair Play, August Belmonts young stallion, which won the blue ribbon in the class for thoroughbred stallions at the National Horse Show last week, went to the Nursery stud in the car with Sweep. Algernon Daingerlield has announced that the Breeding Bureau of the Jockey Club will donate n thoroughbred stallion to .Squadron c. in the near future. Governor Griggs, a son of Tristan, first winner of the Metropolitan Handicap; Pink Coat, winner of the American Derby and sire of the stake winner, Pinkola, are in the list of stallions from which a selection will bo made.
