30LUMBIA CARD POSTPONED HEAVY RAINFALL RESULTS IN DECISION TO SUSPEND RACING FOR ONE DAY. Card Scheduled for Yesterday to Be Decided This Afternoon at South Carolina Course Track in Bad Condition. A heavy rain rtliieli began shortly after midnight rontinued with-it alnitement anil almost Hooded the track and vicinity. The JHmsily constructed grandstand would l-.ave afforded lint scant shelter to possible patrons and the tent used as the betting enclosure, likewise would have been wholly inadequate as a sheltering place. There was a rumor this afternoon that there might bo a change shortly in the personnel of those having the racing in charge at the Fair Grounds. The rumor had it also that S. A. Clopton, one of the financial men backing the venture will step out after Monday. There will be an exodus of race followers from here tomorrow among those who will go home for the holidays. The departures will include T. W. "Chicago" OBrien, Alex Smith, G. II. "Whitey" l.angdon, Frank Carey, John Howard and others. W. 15. Carsons .Tessup Burn is in a bad way with i high fever. Hattcras is another in the same stable that is on the ailing list. No action was taken today by the officials on the protest of .Messrs. Shannon and Knebclkamp regarding the bidding on Uncle Jimmie Gray and Tom Massie by William Shields. The officials are trying to ascertain tin? exact ruling against Mr. Shields at Ijr -ksonville last winter. M. O. Eaton was among todays arrivals from difornia and will Iopart tomorrow for Charleston. .Ti e Hose, another arrival here, departed tonight for Charleston. He had intended booking here, but was informed that the cut-in would be for four days. During the past few days there has been every in- -Kition that the layers have had some agreement a.i to the odds they have been posting.
