ON GUARD IN ALBERTA. ! The rural municipalities bill now before the Al-1Crta legislature, as originaljy drafted by the government, stipulated that the new rural municipal eouncils will be able to pass by-laws preventing horse racing, among the many other regulations they il have authority to enforce. , Horse racing is too popular a sport m too .many Sfctions of the province for George Hoadley to think of allowing rural councils to prevent it. He himelf comes from a constituency noted for its horses and horsemen, and they take too much frank enjoyment out of small race meetings in the southern parts not to make him protest against the clause In question. , , . ., , ., . The same protest was heard from the furthest north, for Sir. Cornwall reiterated it. So did Brainier Sfoore, representing the extreme east. Representatives from all sections of the province were against it and willing to give assent to the vigorous protest put forth by the rancher from Okotoks. The clause was unanimously eliminated.
