ARGENTINAS ELEVEN LEADING STALLIONS. . In connection witli the heavy purchases of broodmares on South American account at the recent Newmarket December sales, London Sporting Life of December 9. printed an interesting statement of the 1911 earnings of the progeny of the leading Argentinian stallions of 1911 to the latest date of information. It presents a decided contrast to our own similar statistics for this year and the article reads as follows, values being rendered into American terms for convenience: "In view of the very large number of high-class broodmares which during the present week havo been purchased at the Newmarket sales for exportation to Argentina, the following table, showing the positions of the leading sires in South America, cannot fail to possess a deal of interest to English breeders and owners. The statistics, by the way. are calculated from January 1 last, and reckoned down to the end of October, the date of the latest returns from South America. "Store than one good judge resident in Uraguay and Argentina has affirmed that had Pietermaritz-burg lived, he would undoubtedly have proved himself one of the greatest of all high-class imported stallions, and his position this year would seem to bear out this contention. As, however, there are two months during which some very valuable races will be decided of the South American, racing year to be included, it is quite possible that Jardy or Diamond Jubilee may oust the leader from his position. "It will readily occur to readers that Sundridge was the only English stallion in 1911 to eclipse the totals to the credit of the four leading Argentine stallions, for William the Third, the runner-up in the English list, was more than 10,000 behind Orange. Particulars of the most prominent Argentine sires are: Races Amount Sire. Won. Won.
