RAY EGAN MAKES TIMELY PURCHASE Buys Valhal a Maiden in the Forenoon and Horso Wins at Lagoon in the Afternoon Salt Lake City Utah July 12 Valhal won the opening dash at Lagoon today It was for maidens at five furlongs and the winner was bought this morning at private sale by Mr Hoy Egau treasurer of the Lagoon Fair and Racing Association Absurd was well thought of by his owner He set a fast pace but Valhal came with a rush hi the stretch and won going away awayGene Gene Hussell and Mary Emily went to the front as soon as the barrier arose in the second race and were fortunate as Tavora stumbled right at the start and ran in front of the second division causing the riders of Royal River and Wicket to pull them up several times Royal Klver ran a capital raoc considering the interference interferenceWhile While at the post in the fourth race Gasket reared up and fell backwards Jockey J McBride who had the mount escaped serious injury but was stunned and Taplin was substituted Mother Kalcham from the stable of J F Newman dashed to the front quickly and won unextended Kid Nelson was outpaced in the early running but closed stoutly Coeur dAlcne carried the bulk of the Kentucky contingents money and rail a smart race raceOwing Owing to the fact that some bookmakers have been posting odds and refusing to take bets at the prices quoted on their slates Manager II I Wilson today posted a notice in the ring that all bookmakers must accept wagers from the public amounting to 100 plus the amount wagered Anyone refusing to comply will be denied the privilege of booking here hereJockey Jockey Merritt Buxton returned today from eastern Canada He left Coeur dAlene towards the close of the Alan meeting to go east to fill an engage ¬ ment with R E Watkins but was unsuccessful on tho eastern tracks
