VALLEY FARM HORSES WINTER WELL Something of the String That Will Carry the Hen dric Colors on Canadian Tracks This Season Toronto Out April 10 Trainer E 1 Whyte has arrived at Woodbine with the horses of Hon J S Ilcndrio and his Inother George M and they are stabled in the old quarters under the tall trees They wintered at the Valley Farm and it was thought best to make one shipment to the first point of racing rather than go to the Hamilton Jockey Club track for a brief spell as was first intended intendedThe The horses enjoyed a fine winter at the Valley Farm near Hamilton in charge of trainer Whyte and return to the track in much l etter condi ¬ tion this spring than when they went into winter quarters The stable has been entirely free from sickness of any description and the horses all look well wellFor For the first time iu many years only one nomination has been iliade to the Kings Plate that being Rockspriug He is now a fouryearold and was also entered in the Plate last year but went lame in his first workout in preparation for the race and was retired On examination a piece of splintered bone was located In the left foreleg which was removed The son of Martimas Spring wells is now goin soundly again and it is exacted will stand training He has been gelded and although a little high in flesh Is looking well wellWhite White Caps is much improved lie has put on about 100 pounds iu weight and lias lost that lanky appearance which was noticeable also in Powder man Of four appearances under colors last year two were victories and one third His best effort was at Fort Erie when lie won at a mile in 141 He was badly cut down in his last race at the Windsor summer meeting which he won and was then retired The injury has apparently left no evil effects as lie is going along soundly soundlyTankard Tankard Sweet Story and Miccosukee now three yearolds are Whitneybred stock purchased froin Albert Simons early last summer They should carry the brown with orange sleeves jacket to the front on many occasions this season Tankard lias proven himself to be the best of the trio with four wins to his credit as a twoyearold In his last ten starts he was only once unplaced He has plenty of early speed and in the Grey Stakes at Woodbine at a mile he was a creditable third which indicates that he should develop into a stayer He is royally bred being by Burgomaster Tanya and is looking exceptionally well wellTlie Tlie chestnut lilly Sweet Story is still a maiden but bat been unfortunate in many wuvs and nnly bad racing luck prevented her from graduating from the maiden class at AVindsorv when she was beaten half a length in a drive by Barnegat She was on the ailing list last fall and was lanced in a number of places This daughter of Hamburg Sallie of Navarre has tilled out nicely and should do well this season seasonMiccosukee Miccosukee displayed her true form on one occa ¬ sion only when she defeated a good hand of young ¬ sters at the Windsor fall meeting in commanding style This one has done well over winter and Is almost certain to show much improvement this sea ¬ son sonOld Old Donhani although turning gray with age will be given another chance this year His under ¬ pinning went back on him parly last spring After almost a years rest he is going soundly again Den ham is undoubtedly the fastest horse ever bred in Canada at any distance up to a mile He also won the Durham Cup at one and threequarter miles but from a mediocre lot lotThere There are six twoyearolds in the stable part of which arc the property of George M Hcndrie and if appearances are to be considered they should be formidable under colors They are all homebred and scored quarters last fall as yearlings iu 25 and better Tlie list follows and Martola the former in particular are built more on racy linos and are finer types of the thoroughbred thoroughbredBit Bit a threeyearold bay lilly well thought of by her owner George M Hcndrie is also in the string but as she has never raced her capabilities arc unknown unknownThe The yearlings at Valley Farm number ten and are tlie bestlooking crop produced there in many yeans Five aro by
