LOOKING- TO THE FUTURE NEW MANAGEMENT PLANNING IMPROVEMENTS AT LAUREL FOR NEXT SEASON. Patronage of Meeting- Has Been of Record-Breaking Proportions in Spite of Adverse Weather Fred itiulhollands Career at an End, Baltimore, .Mil., October 20. Matt J. Winn and his associates of the Maryland State Fair have had more than their share of inclement weather for the present racing season at Laurel Park. In the face of this most serious handicap to out-of-door sport, the patronage has been greater than ever before in the history of the course. Already plans have been laid for next year that will greatly facilitate the handing of the crowds. The association lias recently added considerably to its holdings and as soon as the present meeting is over, at the end of the mouth, work will be begun to bring the plant to a further degree of modern excellence. The present fair buildings will all be brought together at one end of the spacious grounds. A half-mile track will be constructed in the inliald and there will be a general changing in the location of the stables. With the property that has been acquired, the grounds will be enlarged materially, and when the proposed work is completed. Laurel will have one of the most pretentious of racing plants. A high wind and rain which turned what promised to be a fair day for racing into a decidedly unpleasant afternoon spoiled a card that promised good sport at Laurel this afternoon. .Superintendent. F. Maunixs good two-year-old, ran one of the best races of his career in winning the live and a half furlongs sprint. He stood a drive from the beginning almost and, catching Undaunted in the last few yards, won going away. The Talbott stable had particularly poor luck. Old Fred Mulholland, which Mr. Talbott liought at Havre de Grace, ran into the fence in the homestretch in the third race and was almost cut in two. Jockey Waldron, who was riding Fred Mulholland, escaped witli a severe shaking up. It was remarkable that he was not seriously Injured. Fred Mulholland was the favorite and, after trailing the others to the turn for home, began to close and appeared to have a winning chance when he swerved.
