CANADIAN REMOUNTS FOR ENGLAND. Imdon, Eng., October 20. The remount department of the war olliee has reported to the army council in favor of giving a contract for cavalry and artillery horses to Canada, thus securing part of the produce of the Canadian National Bureau of Breeding. It is iiointcd out tlmt.it is in the interests of the anny and the empire to encourage the work being done by the bureau. As the ariny council has already taken a favorable view of the proposal it is a foregone conclusion that definite arrangements will be completed in a few days. The first lot of bureau remounts are required at once and other shipments will be ordered for 1914, 1915 and 1915. It is the first time that England has purchased war horses from Canada in time of peace and it presages a great business in the near future. Several European iiowers are also after these horses, but the policy is to supply the empire first. An emergency plan is now being discussed whereby the National Bureau and the National Live Stock Exchange will endeavor to get options on ten thousand horses to lie secured within twenty days of the time ordered, should they be needed for war purposes. The Greek government took a shipload of army horses out of Ireland this week. Some of them were taken from the plough. German buyers have liecn busy in southwest France and have secured 18,000 horses. Belgian buyers are in Ireland and France after Veinounts. Altogether these seem to be piping times In the war horse line and Canadians hen- are glad that Canada lias come to the front at this juncture with a htg comprehensive plan which will help to solve a knotty problem.
