PETELUS IS DISQUALIFIED AT LAUREL. Ruling of Stewards Follows Swerving of W. T. Andersons Hor3e in Race at Maryland Course. Baltimore, Md., October 14. Capt. E. B. Cas-satts Trial by Jury, making his first appearance of the meeting, won the feature race of a good card at Laurel Park this afternoon, it being a handicap for two-year-olds at five and a half furiongs. Carrying top weight of 120 pounds and conceding from two to twenty-seven pounds to the other starters, the son of Fair Play and Princess Chic ran au excellent race, winning in a drive from Hanson and Sharpshooter, the entry of Schuyler L. Parsons. Trial by Jury probably would have won in any event, but he had all the luck in the race. Both Hanson and Sharpshooter- were off in the rear and had to work their way up. The winner paid the good price of S.C0 for . Executor was best in .the fifth, a selling affair at a mile and he won handily enough, but his owner had to pay 00 to protect his horse, J. W. Hedrlck doing the bidding. The first disqualification of the meeting came with the running of the final dash, in which Petelus finished a head in advance of Uncle Ben. Petelus was the medium of heavy, support in the mutuels. Uncle Ben and Petelus were running close together when the field turned Into the stretch, with Petelus on the inside. Just after they had straightened out Petelus took a swerve and carried Uncle Ben almost to the outer rail, interfering with the latter. Butwell promptly claimed a foul and, after interrogating Schuttinger, who rode Petelus, the stewards disqualified that horse, placing Uncle Ben first, J. H. Houghton second and The Rump third. Jockeys Phil Goldstein and Joe Notter left for the Whitney farm in New Jersey this afternoon. They will assist in the final trials of sixteen yearlings over the track at the farm tomorrow. Fred Auerbach left for Cincinnati last night to confer with Martin Nathanson over the program book for the meeting at Charleston. Harry Lauder, winner of the opening dash, was bid up 00 over his entered price of 00 by J. W. Hedrick, whose Napier finished second. The horse was retained. H. B. Steele, who was formerly associated with the late Fred Luzader in a stable that they raced on the western circuit, is again gathering together a string to race at Charleston and- Cuba. He purchased from Sam Louis this morning Gerrard and Beaumont Belle. He will make .an effort to secure the services of the apprentice rider F. Coleman for the winter meetings. J. Simon Healy is much pleased with the Sir John Johnson yearlings -.that he is handling for Capt. E. B. Cassatt.
