USEFUL AMERICAN HORSE DESTROYED. The well-known race horse. Election, the property of Col. Storv. and trained by J. Dawson at .Newmarket, i.ngland, split a pastern while at exercise September 30. and was subsequently destroyed. Election was a seven-year-old by Voter out of Ambiosine, and was bred in the United States. Without attaining to anything approaching greatness Election on several occasions displayed useful form during the course of a fairly busy career on the turf. As a two-year-old he ran seven times, winning once, his success being recorded in the Rothampstead Selling Plate at Harpenden, being subsequently bought in for 400 guineas. In Ids second season he made ten appearances, again placing one win to his credit aceount by defeating a useful band in the Bestwood Plate at Nottingham. As a four-year-old he won the Prince of Waless Selling Plate at Leicester, being retained at 500 guineas. His remaining twelve efforts were all unsuccessful, though he ran second on no fewer than five occasions. The following season he did considerably better, winning twice, dead-heating for first place once, and being placed seven times, as the result of fourteen appearances. His victories were scored in the Sherdley Gold Cup at Haydock Park and the Ebor Handicap at York, in which, carrying 102 pounds, and ridden by W. Huxley, he defeated Mynora, Bowman, King William which started favorite, and a half dozen others; while he ran a dead-heat with St. Crispin in the Athcrstone Plate at Leicester. Last year he performed but moderately, taking part in ten races without once being placed. This season he had been seen out on seven occasions, winning the Visitors Handicap at the Newmarket First Spring Meeting, and incidentally upsetting the odds laid ou Gotham. Altogether Election ran in sixty-one races, of which he won seven, while he was placed in nineteen and unplaced in thirtv-live.
