j : i ; DAY OF SPIRITED FINISHES FIVE OF SIX CONTENDERS IN JUVENILE HANDICAP FINISH CLOSELY BUNCHED. Sir Edgar, from .the Bedwell Stable, Gets Verdict After Making All of the Pace AmalS Wins Cecil Selling Stakes. Baltimore, Md., November 19. Racing at Havre de Grace this afternoon was marked by close and thrilling finishes, the majority of the winners getting the decision by the shortest of margins. The going showed a decided improvement. The carded feature of the day, the Cecil Selling Stakes, for three-year-olds and over, one mile and seventy yards, was won by the Montpelier Stables Amalfi in a hard stretch struggle witli Little Nearer and Thbrnbill. The winner, ridden by McCabey, moved up with a rush on the outside hi rounding the far turn and hung on with great determination in tho final drive. Little Nearer, after being outrun in the early stages, closed with a rush but could not withstand the winners challenge. Tliornhili faltered badly at tlie end after disposing of Harry Shaw in the early running. The winner was overlooked by the talent, going to the post at IS to 0, after receding in the betting. Another thrilling finish resulted with the running of the third race, a handicap for two-year-olds at five furlongs. The pace throughout was of a high order and was forced by II. G. Bedwells Sir Edgar. The latter got the verdict in a stirring finish, with the first five scattered over the track heads and necks apart. The outcome was not clear till the official placing was displayed. Sir Edgar, a rapid breaker, carried Egmont ami Hanson along at a terrific clip the entire trip and showed great game-ness at the end. The Montpelier Stables Egmont came again at the end and got up iu time to take second money from Stalwart Helen. Harry Junior showed an impressive performance and closed well after losing many lengths by going wide at tho turn Into the homestretch. H. P. Whitney, through Albert Simons, yesterday disposed of the Broomstick Kildeer filly. Broom Flower, to Mrs. S. Musgrave. The terms were not made public. Tlie filly is intended for winter racing. Roxie Angarola announced today that he would ship ids stable to Charleston and thence to Cuba. Numbered among the consignments are Sunno and -Lady Itryn". A sale of horses will be held in the paddock 011 Wednesday next. W. T. Anderson left this evening for New York to make arrangements for the wintering of his string at Gravesend at the conclusion of this meeting. Among the new operators who cut in this afternoon were Horace Paul aud Steve LHoinuiedleu.
