FAVORITES AGAIN BEATEN NOT A FIRST CHOICE AMONG DAYS WINNERS AT PALMETTO PARK. Usceit, Equals Track Record for Five Furlongs in Winning Feature Race of Card Mary Ann K. Win? Race in Which Verena Disappoints. Charleston, S, C, December S. A repetition of yesterdays failure ot favorites occurred this afternoon at Palmetto 1urk, when the six choices were again bowled over. As a result, the layers again reaped a harvest. Todays attendance showed a material increase and speculation was of far greater volume than at any former period. The racing was spirited, with several close linishes contributing additionally to make thu sport enjoyable. The best race of the lay was a five furlongs sprint, engaging all ages under special weights. Some speedy racers met iu it, with Dr. Carmen most staunchly supported, but the best ho could do was to land in third place, tseelt and Colle showing the way for him throughout and tiutshiug in the order named. In the lollowmg rnce, under selling conditions at uuo niile and a quarter, Mary Ann 1C, which is at present enjoying excellent form, scored handily over Stars and Slripes, with High Class leading the others. Verena was again an intended "good thing," but Teahan took hini the longest way and he Uually tired badly in the. stretch. The opener went to Ynca, well supported at loug odds by jockey Turners following. Jockey Keogh, who had the mount on Prince Chap in this race, narrowly escaped serious injury when he was brushed off soon after the start. He rallied during the afternoon after being badly shaken up. Tiie Cincinnati youngster, E. Pool, is coming in for a good deal of attention by his saddle work here. At present lie is the leading rider. Jockeys Waldron and Connors were each suspended for four days by the stewards for rough riding this afternoon. Todays arrivals included John Whalen. from New York. He will probably ship his stable from here to Cuba at the conclusion of the meeting. H. I. Brown wired from Havana that he would hi in Charleston about December -9 to" arrange for the shipuuaiX of hor.es to Cuba.
