1 - j .. , I i RECENT NEW RECRUIT TO BACING. Isew York. December 22. — Time was when the late Stephen Sanford ranked as the only breeder of thoroughbreds of importance in New York state, but Willis Sharpe Kilmer has established a stud at Binghamton that promises to become famous. Formerly the Kilmer stud produced only high-class hunters, thoroughbreds and half-breds. which made good in the show ring and hunting field. Mr. Kilmer, however, has recently acquired many thorough- bred mares that give his stock farm an altogether new importance. These mares will afford Yellow-crest, a smashing son of Yellow Tail and Playful, that won the last three championships for the thoroughbred stallions at the Madison Square Garden shows, and the other Kilmer stallions a new opportunity, and the Binghamton establishment is sure to be adequately represented on the race courses. Mr. Kilmer has a string of high-class yearlings in training under the direction of Frank M. Taylor. These youngsters are wintering at the Grave-send track, and are said to be of the finest th.-ir- oughbred type. Many of the Kilmer thoroughbreds are kept at Sky Lake, a large hunting and fishing estate located in the moutains near Binghamton. where the owner sjiends much of his leisure time. Sky Lake is an ideal place for breeding the tlior-oughbred horse because it affords a wide range of pasture in a rolling country. Mr. Kilmer is master of the Remlik Hunt. Reni-lik. Va. He is a well-known yachtsman. He has the large steam yacht Remlik. recently returned from a cruise in the West Indies: also the twin-screw iiower yacht Remlik III. Mr. Kilmer is the proprietor of the largest newspaper in southwestern New York, the Itingha niton Press: is first vice-presiilent of The Peoples Trust Company of Binghamton. and has other large business interests. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club, Calumet. Cornell. Hardware Clubs, the Psi Ipsilon fraternity and many other clubs in this country and in England. His father was a leading figure on the trotting turf.
