March 22. — Amateur turfmen are taking more than u-ual interest in the two -days meet tog of the Halted Hunt- Racing Association scheduled for May 1:1 and 17 at Belmont Park Tor minal. This is due to an increase in prizes. This year they will be far more valuable than in previous years. T!ie race committee, which is busy on the preliminary arrangements, sent out word that the preliminary entries for tin- biggest event of all Would close on Thursday, and horsemen who name their entries by that time will pay only half the entry and starting fees demanded between Thursday and tin- final dosing date of April 20. The big race is named the Great 1 aited Hunts Steeplechase, and will be for a -take of ,080, the largest recorded for many years for a contest of this kind. It will be for four-year olds and over ■i» 1 run over a brush course of about two and a half miles. There are thirteen events on the United Hunts program ami the Great Called Hunts Steeplechase will be oiii of the seven races to lie run on the opeatng day. Another feature event for the same day is the Timber Toppers Champion Chase, for hunters, to be rim over the post and rail course, distance four miles. f,,r which a ,000 stake is offered. A similar stake has been provided for the North Shore, handicap for three year -olds and over, at a mile and a quarter. Each of the remaining four races has a t500 purse. Of the six races to be run on the second day. the Shinnecock. a handicap steeplechase for four-rear old- and over, at about two miles, is a .51X1 -take, and Do- South Shore, a handicap for three-year-olds ami over, distance one mile, a stake of ,000. Five hundred dollar purses are offered for each of the remaining four races. Altogether 3,- 508 m addition to plate, has been provided for the two days spriag meeting. Two races on each rut] are limited to gentlemen riders, and the ama tears receive a fire pound handicap on professional jockeys in all the other races.
