ENGLANDS CROP OF THREE-YEAR-OLDS. I am not one of the thi k and thin admirers of Figaro, though perhaps in a strict handicap he would be asked to give weight to all his eon tempo] arie- except Fihnella. I o my eye. a certain amount of slackness behind tin- withers mars the conformation of the son of Sundridge and may, in some degree, interfere with the harmony of his action. Ali Bey, in tie other band, is a special favorite of mine, for he is balanced to perfection and built quite on Die line- of flying Fox. If he make- a snfflcieul growth during Die recess he will not he far from the top of the tree, though I am well aware that, accenting to the siable estimate. Clari-simn- is a good deal in front of him. This may well lie so. for Clarifaimus showed rare promise UUt season and bids fair to give his sire. Radium, a high place among winning stallions this year. Three other Colts right in a heap together on book form are Phalaris. Kinds Joker and Mar-cu-. with Ar_o-. Atlieling and Sirian only a pound or so behind them. Of these Phalaris would be my choice, for I know he was one of the fastest two-year-olds Mr. George Lnmbton ever had to do with, and as he was never m ileal I J trained la-t year there are no valid reasons for supposing that he will not -lay when he is really wound up. Certainly he is brad to stay, and he mares an.! look -like i slayer. Besides, it doe- not need a great stayer to win tiie Derby or St. I.eger. though nowaday*, when races are truly run. there is more call for stamina than formerly, when in the vast majority of cases the race was really to the swift. Kings Joker i- a grand colt and quite a possible winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, though not likely to stay further than thai distance. With Marcus, much depends on his jockev. and if Jones i- available to ride him he will troBble the best of them. Argoa is a -hefty" customer, which ma nearer again beat Sirian. of which I well know we hare not yet seen the best. Then there is Atbelag. the finest of all Desmonds sons, in my bumble opinion. He has size and scope, and looked all over like Improving when last he gave us a Know. One possible, behind all Die above, on the book, is Bayard, of which 1 made a special note last autumn, for lie ran quit- well on more than one Oceanian, and I resolved to liear him in mind for this year. He is said to be doing extremely well, and we may be sure that he and Ali Bey will maintain the credit of Bayanlo this year, whatever the Cheshire Cat COlt and others of the Fart may do. As a matter of casual Choice among these colts. I should incline just now to Phalaris. Atlieling. Sirian. Clarissinius and Ali Lev. and to further contract the list 1 would discard all but Phalaris and Clarissinius. My own fancy might be for All Bey, but 1 cannot oppose Die stable estimate of Clarissinius as compared with him. Of the fillies. Iilinella. of eour-e. comes out best, but she will have some good ones to heat in Canyon, Eos and the Melusine tilly. f which I am inclined to think the last -named will turn out the best. She stays well, has plenty of size, and is a really game one. Canyon al-o stays well, but •he is rather small, and her fore -legs a-e none of the lust. Eos is expected to atay. hut that i- hot a distinguishing characteristic of Orbys stock. Telephone Girl is not sound in her wind, and 1 believe goes to the stud shortly, bin there is nothing to be said against Iitinella. which on form should j heal them all. Still, my choice is the Melus ne lilly. which is the best linking of the lot. -"The Special Commissioner" in London Sportsman.
