New York, May 2!.— Rain fell last night, but the • sun came out brightly and so dried out the Bel- i moiit lark track that better time was made today than was anticipated. A good card was down for decision and the crowd was of goodly proportions . for an off day. A selling handicap at one mile was Hie special feature and brought some of the lietter • class of platers together. There were two races : for the two-year-olds, one .1 selling affair and the I other for maidens. Bar showed a return to his good form, winning the Ilattsilale Selling Handicap. He broke well and. showing his customary speed, led for a short distance before Rutwi 11 took him back and allowed Pallas and Virile to show the way to the stretch turn. I.ac then moved up stoutly on the outside, under urging, and outlasted Jriunpy, which came with a burst of speed iu the stretch. The latter was in close tpiartcrs in making the stretch turn and closed gamely. Nonesuch scored over Radiant Flower in the first race after being well backed. Maifoii won from Flag Day in the second after a stirring stretch drive and Mustard, heavily backed at oihls-on. easily made good in the third. Crasp ran prominently throughout, but was passed in the final strides by Woodward. Sorrento had an easy time in winning the steeplechase after several of the probable contenders went down. In the final race. Koh-i-Noor. from the stable of S. L. larsons, and making her first start, on tin-strength of fast work-outs, was •■installed a hot choice." She made good without being seriously men iced. Jockey J. Metcalf was suspended for six days bv the stewards for rough riding in the second race. "John B. Madden this morning sold to the Rrighlon Stable, of which Ceorge Ddom is trainer, the two-year-olds Cheer and Yellowstone at private sale. The former was a recent winner and the latter has shown some promise. S. R. Riddle of Philadelphia has liurchased from Mr. Madden the filly Yankee Witch and she will be trained by W. II. Karrick. Interest is centered in the running of the Suburban tomorrow, when a tremendous crowd is looked for The Memorial Dav card has in the past few years attracted about the biggest attendance of anv dav of the entire season and, with the added attraction of the Suburban, past figures may be broken. Mr. Madden said he received ,500 for the two he sold to the Brighton Stable and ,000 for Yankee Witch. --■ The new rule went into effect at Belmont lark tiKlav. wherebv the riders will weigh both in and out on the scaie iu the paddock.
