GENESIS RUNS ACCORDING TO HER NAME. Takes the Greenfield Selling Stakes at Jamaica in a Close Finish. New York. June 22.— The Greenfield Selling Stakes for two-year-olds, was todays stake event at Jamaica and it went to Gifford A. Cochrans Genesis, which, beginning extremely fast, set a hot pace all the way. but tired and just lasted to beat the fast coming Straight Forward. The latter met with quite a hit of interference during the racing and. when finally clear in the final drive, came like a shot and just failed to get up. Artemis, which finished third, ran in close pursuit of the winner throughout and in the last few strides was in close quarters. T. Davies, her rider, claimed a foul, which was not allowed. Kilkenny Hoy signalized his debut for the year by winning easily over ordinary opposition. The defeat of the short -priced Campfire in the first race was a surprise. Arnold winning easily in a manner tha: proved him the best. Gallop took the measure of good opposition in the fifth, going into an early lead which he maintained to tfea end. Near the finish he was closely pressed by Shyness and Saratoga, but lasted well under a strong finish. Jockey L. Mink perhaps was the important factor in the victory of Dolina in the second when he outrode Shilling on Illuminator. The bidders were active today. Kilkenny Boy winner of the third race was advanced from 00 to ,300 by 8. J. Biocchi. who had Springmass in the same race. Gallop was also bid up from 00 to ,000 by J. Kelly. Both horses were retained. Dr. Moriarity a well known Saratoga sportsman, was a visitor today. Jockey J. Sterrett, rider of Saratoga, was fined .5 by the stewards for making a frivolous claim of foul against the rider of Shyness in the fifth race. Both R. Newman and R. L. Bresler put in claims for Shyness in the fifth race and in the draw the former got possession of the mare. J. W. Hedrick had a claim in for Saratoga, but, instead of placing a crctified check with the secretary, he tendered him a personal check written with a lead encil. which secretary Edwards declined, leaving the horse in Mr. Breslers possession.
