U. S. SENATOR FORMERLY A JOCKEY. James B. Morrow, who writes entertainingly for a syndicate of American newspapers, brings out the fact that Halted States Senator Charles Curtis of Kaaaaa was a Jockey in his youthful days. From Mr. Morrows contribution on Sunday last to the newspapers for which he writes. Daily Racing Form takes the liberty of reprint :ng the following report of an interview with Senator Curtis: " You were a jockey. I said, while a boy. Who influenced you to study law? " *My Grandmother Curtis, by her advice, took me from the race track tad sent me to the lepeka high school. My Grandfather Curtis owned running horses as did a great many men at that time in Kansas. You are sixteen years old and will soon 1m- too large and heavy to Is- a jockey. Besides, I would like to See you something else. " I thought the matter over on Sunday. On Monday I went to see Charley Search. "I rode for you last year, I said, and 1 am under contract to ride for ou this season I will do as 1 promised. but if you will release me from the bargain Ill fee greatly obliged because I want to stop racing and go to erhset. " If you will really go to school. Charley Search told me. Ill let you off. pay all thats coming to you and make you a present of 0. And so it was arranged and Senator Curtis at once licgnn to lay the foundation for his successful career.
