The trio were favorites and their victories were popular. A big upset developed when Bourbon Lass, at odds-on, failed to run to a place in the field of four starters that contested the third race. Lady Ivan was- returned the winner over King I.elle. a first-time start-.-r. Bourbon Lass lacked the high speed she showed in her preceding race and was taken wide throughout. .1. J. Murdock showed a keen turn of sliced in the fourth race to lead some fast sprinters from the start in this nice. ISlackie Daw, a crack juvenile of last year, made his three-vear-old debut here, but retired after racing forwardly for a half mile and the race should improve him. There was much regret expressed by horsemen today when it became known that the racing bill in liouisiana, which had been advanced to third reading without dissent, had suffered defeat. The supporters of the measure had felt confident that it would pass both branches of the legislature and its failure will likely result in no further effort being made to secure favorable racing legislation at this session.
