AQUEDUCT RACING CONTINUES POPULAR. Big Crowd Sees Startling Defeat Rhino Maiden, Kewessa and Marso Henry. Xo,vv ,Y.ork Jmie 30. The attendance keeps up wonderfully well at Aqueduct, thanks to fine weather and attractive cards. The feature of today s racing was the Midwood Handicap, which was won by Startling from Rhine Maiden and Kewessa There was quite a little rough riding during the race, from which Kewessa and Marse Henry suffered. On the first turn Startling cut Kewessa off and thereby gained a good lead, which lie held to the end. For nearly an eighth McTaggart used his whip on Kewessa in an effort to get to Startling and, in so doing, flashed it several times in front of Marse Henry just as the latter was making his effort on the outside. With these two battling in the middle of the track, Rhine Maiden got through along the rail into second place. But for the early interference it is probable Kewessa would have beeii much closer to the winner. In the mile and five-sixteenths race Shyness led from start to finish and reduced the track record to 2:1-1. Martin Xathanson was at the track today looking after entries for the Chicago racing. It is said that C. J. Fitzgerald will act as associate judge with Oapt. T. J. Clay of Kentucky. Virile has evidently lost all form. He was never a close contender in his race today. A year ago he would have been an odds-ou favorite in like company. In the same race Jem was well favored among the dockers and stable connections, but he failed and tired badly in the last quarter of a mile. After Shyness won the third race she was advanced by J. W. Hedrick from 00 to ,400, but was retained by her owner, G. W. Click, who purchased the mare together with Old Broom, a few days ago. C. Ivers, who rode in the far west several years ago, was a visitor today. Ho has been engaged in the purchase of horses for the Italian government for the past few months. E. J. McGraw was an arrival today from Canada and will remain several days. Set Square, winner of the fifth race, was bid up $.i00 over his entered price, but was protected by her owner. G. Alexandra did the bidding. Probable riders for the Great American tomorrow are as follows: Hollister. A. Schuttinger; Ticket, J. Rutwell; Cainpfire, J. McTaggart; Fairy Maid, J. McCahey; Friendless, F. Keogh; Ivory Black, J. Loftus; Hourless, K. Ilaynes; Woodtrap, M. Garner.
