She stood the final drive resolutely and managed to retain a necks advantage to the finish. J. J. Murdock was a scant half length before? Dodge. The latter was going fastest of all and would have won at a slightly longer distance. The customary big Saturday crowd was in attendance and speculation was again of immense volume. The racing .was interesting throughout and again brought in its wake several surprises, most of the favorites succumbing to outsiders. Altout the worst disappointment came with the running of the third race, for which Guide Iost was an outstanding choice. She was beaten by Disturber after a sharp stretch drive. Durng the running of this race Vachel Worth fell, and, breaking a leg, was destroyed. Jockey Hoag. who had tin? mount, on lii in . escaped injury. J. N. flounce, owner of Vachel Worth, claimed Guide lost out of the race for ,17.1. Considerable interest attached to the running of the opening dash because of the presence of Piatt and Kd Alvey both reputed cracks and making their initial start. Iiatt accounted for the purse like a good colt. Ed Alvey. however, was a disappointment, for he dropped buck after going the first uarter and was a bad trailer at the end. lie will improve on this showing. Vogue was withdrawn from the stake race on account of developing a quarter crack that will keep her from racing for some time. A. L. Kirhy bought at private sale today from W. J. Youiig the two-year-old fillies Innocent Inez and Little Spider, which he will take with him to Fort Erie; for the racing there. .IclTcrson Livingston, who came from Chicago this morning, stated that his horses in charge of Herman lirandt would be sent to Hawthorne for the racing there and that those in charge of Most; Oold-hlatt would be sent to the Empire City track to engage in eastern racing for some time. W. Perkins is the latest to announce his intention of racing several of his horses at Chicago and will ship about six horses there. Edward Jasper, who is representing the Illinois Jockey Club here, received many entries to the stakes at Hawthorne, which closed today. Every three-year-old of prominence in Kentucky has been nominated for the American Derby. Tin; Gold Cup likewise received attention from owners of the better grade of horses that are campaigning here. Jockey W. W.
