HORSES GATHERING FAST AT FORT ERIE. Fort Erie, Out., July 1. Horses are coming in at the Fort Erie track yesterday, in anticipation of the opening of the first summer meeting of the Niagara Racing Association on July 4. Today brought more arrivals from New York, Latonia and Hamilton, with traiuloads to follow from the latter place with the close of the meeting there. All of the horsemen who have arrived to date speak in glowing terms or the meetings held in Canada, especially that at Hamilton, which reflects the border interest, sure to flame out to extensive proportions by the time Fort Erie is reached Tuesday. All is ready at the Niagara Racing Associations plant, and there will be ample accommodation for the thoroughbreds coming in, although their numbers promise to be greater than at the same time last year. Transportation facilities to the track from Buffalo promise to be much improved. In addition to the regular Grand Trunk train service, improved ferry service will accoinniodate many. A big boat has been added to the regular service between the Ferry street landing and Fort Erie during the races. This should furnish the best service the track has ever enjoyed, especially for automobilists. Attention is called to the fact that admission to the track during the races will be .50 for men and for women, as formerly, the racing association paying the ten and five-cent war tax, respectively, which in the case of some or the Canadian tracks is assessed in addition on patrons. All indications are that the meeting will outrank in importance .in every respect anything of the sort which has ever been known to the plant. The prospect is that there will be more horses available for the racing than ever, but President J. II. Madi-gin announces that the additions to the barns will enable the track to accommodate all with room to spare. Practically all the ollicials for the meeting are either on the ground or at Hamilton. The big plant is spick ami span in readiness for the opening. Books for the meeting are in hands or the horsemen and have excited favorable comment. The stake entries ar6 notable. All the stakes at Fort Erie this year are of the added money variety, an innovation in the history of the track. Dates for the running of the stakes have been assigned as follows: Fourth of July Handicap, ,500 added, for three-year-olds and over, one mile and seventy yards, July 4.
