COMING FROM EVERYWHERE TO HAWTHORNE Eayhorry Candle, Faux-Col, Eil Crump, Wilhitc, Dick Williams and Franklin Among Them. That the horses entered for the Illinois Jockey Clubs Hawthorne race meeting, July 15 to 29, are far above the average in class, is shown by the number of winners from the local entry list during the last few days at Latonia, Aqueduct and Fort Erie. Wednesday Bayberry Candle won the mile handicap at Aqueduct in 1:3S. This mare has been entered by J. W. May in the Illinois Jockey Club Cold Cup Handicap. Faux-Col, the French-bred three-year-old entered here for the American Derby by R. J. Mackenzie of the Canadian Northern Railway, won his first race in America at Fort Erie on "the same day. At Latonia, also on that day, John W. Schorrs crack Kri Crump, carrying 130 pounds, finished first at a mile in 1:3S in front of Solar Star and Embroidery. All three of these high-class horses are candidates for the Cold Cup Handicap. On the same day, at Latonia, Mary H. was a winner as well as Fleetabelle. Both of these are engaged in the Hawthorne Stakes. On Tuesday at Latonia among the days winners also engaged in the Illinois Jockey Club fixtures, were Wilhitc and there was a nose finish between Dick Williams and Franklin at one and three-sixteenths miles in 1:57. The last two are candidates for the American Derby. Reservation for 424 horses, in addition to those entered for the stake races at the Hawthorne meeting, July 15 to 29, are in the hands of racing secretin- Nathanson of the Illinois Jockey Club and more are coming in each mail. And the fact that all of the applicants are listing good horses makes it certain that Chicago will have one of the greatest meetings in its history. The entry of John E. Maddens Gillies and A. B. Spreckeis Sangallo, are important additions to the entries for the new American Derby, Madden lwlng probably the greatest breeder and seller of thoroughbred race horses in America and Spreckeis being Californias leading breeder. The Hotel Sherman Company has subscribed 00 to be added to the regular 00 purse, making for the Hotel Sherman Handicap, to be run on Dcrbv day. Jefferson Livingston has subscribed 50," making 50 for the Iron Mask Memorial Handicap, in honor of his sprinting champion seven-year-old. Iron Mask, which died this year.
