FAUX-C0L WINS THE CANADIAN DERBY. Has No Trouble in Defeating Phil Ungar More Selling Race Troubles and Bidding Up. Fort Erie. Out., July 11. II. J. Mackenzies three-yoar-old imported colt. Faux-Col, won tho nineteenth running of the Canadian Derby at Fort Erie this afternoon. He was ridden by G. Byrne, made all the pace and boat Phil Ungar off by a half-dozen lengths. The early pace was slow, but the mile and a quarter was run in 2:05. Sands of Pleasure, the only other starter, Avas a distant trailer for the entire race. The Derby proved a strong drawing card and attracted a large gathering, many of the visiting Shriucrs: being among those present. Racing conditions were ideal and the track was probably in better condition than on any day of tho mooting. A handicap at one mile and seventy yards for Canadian-breds and another handicap at three-quarters, divided interest with the running of the Derby. Purses of 00 were added to both of these races. The selling race troubles which started hero with a vengeance after II. G. Bedwell claimed Blue Grass Belle from F. J. Pons, bids fair to be continued right down the line. P. Powers was tho one to suffer from the bidders this afternoon, his filly Ou thiol; being advanced from to ,405 by J. M. Shilling. She was retained. Squooler won at the first asking for Francis J. Pons when hi boat a band of fast sprinters in the fifth race, lie made practically al! the pace and outstayed Water Lady in tho final drive. II. G. Bedwell announced this morning that he would ship his entire stable from here to Chicago to take part in the revival meeting to be held at the Hawthorne track. He fools that he should help to encourage tin? promoters of the meeting. He has Anita and Sir Edgar entered for the Chicago Merchants Handicap. Besides his own horses, ho is shipping tho entire stable of D. A. OMeara, who recently acquired the horses that raced in the name of Edward McBride. Jockey S. Wolstonholm will accompany the Bedwell stable to do the riding. At the conclusion of the racing at Hawthorne the entire band will be shipped back to Fort Erie. Several other stables will also ship to Chicago tomorrow. Among them are those of W. C. Weant, J. M. Shilling and C. N. Freeman. Albert Simons returned from New York this morning. Hi! will lemaiu at Fort Erie with the Harry Payne Whitney racers in order to give, them a chance to round to form. Sickness prevailed through tho entire stable the past spring and tho horse:? have never entirely recovered. They are going through the building up process now and in a month or so should lie in condition to give a good account of themselves. Corn Broom has been turned over to W. A. Car-tor by I. A. OMeara and he will be shipped to Windsor to start in the Canadian-bred races at the mooting. Harry Rites has decided to ship his horses, including the jumper Battery, to Saratoga. He will leave some day this week. E. J. Crawford will ship in the same car.
