ROYAL MARTYR began slowly and was under slight restraint in the early running, but saved ground when entering the homestretch and, closing up steadily, won drawing clear. MISS PUZZLE raced FILIGREE into defeat and drew away in the homestretch, but tired finally. .TACOBA was hard ridden for the entire way and, being forced wide on the last turn, tired in the final eighth. HIDDEN STAR gained gradually in the homestretch. PAN MAID was almost left, FILIGREE set the early pace, but quit. Scratched 2S219Silica. 115; 2S219 Julia L., 107; 2S2053Favour, 107. AVELDSHIP raced under stout restraint for the first mile and pecked at several jumps, then responded quickly when called on and fenced faultlessly, then drew away at the final jump, but was being hard ridden at the finish. KNIGHT OF MERC I was under a pull until in the final half, then finished gamely and gaining steadily on the leader. BILL DUDLEY displayed excellent speed, but lost considerable ground at each jump. SICIBBEREEN had no mishaps and made a game effort in the final eighth. HIBLER was not persevered with after he made several bad landings. CHUPADEP.O fell at the, seventeenth jump and pulled up lame. AVon easily; second and third driving. CJAMPFIRE, displaying sudden improvement, raced KOH-I-NOOR into defeat in the early running and drew into a clear lead to win with speed in reserve. RICKETY was forced back on the stretch turn, but came fast on the outside of the leaders in the homestretch and finished gamely. KNOCKER began slowly, but saved ground on all turns and ran a good race. JOCK SCOT was a forward contender all the way and finished close up under punishment. SPUR folowed the leaders under slight restraint, moved up gradually while rounding the far turn and responding resolutely to a call in tin; final eighth outstayed STAR HAAVK in the final drive. STAR HAAVK took the lead on th e backstreteh and hung on gamely under punishment, but tired in the final strides. FRANKLIN quit at the end of three-quarters. CLIFF FIELD saved ground on the turns and finished fast and gamely, but was tiring in the closing strides. AVOODEX SHOES was shutlled back on the far turn and came again, but tired finally. The latter was away badly! but closed an immense gap and would have won in another stride. MADAME CURIE raced wide throughout and the race should improve her. FELICIDAD set a fast uaee, but quit badly in the final ei-hth MERCHANT ran fairly well. REPROBATE and PEASANT showed speed.
