SON OF ARD PATRICK COMING. New York. August 22. AAith the public-spirited purpose of improving the horse stock of the United States. Richard Trimble, treasurer of the United States Steel Corporation, has just purchased in Ireland the thoroughbred race horse Huon II.. son of the great Aril Patrick, which won the Epsom Derby iu 1902 and was sold to the German government for 03,000. Ilnon II. is one of the few sons, if he is not the only son. of Ard Patrick ever bought for importation to America. He is described as a horse of the typical Irish hunter stamp, large, long and low to the ground, with enormous bone and substance. Mr. Trimble has no use for the long-legged sprinters so common nowadays, and he would not buy until he had ascertained by cable that this royally-bred stallion was of the right stamp. Huons career on and ofT the race course has been notable and interesting. He was bred in Ireland and was purchased there when young by the German government for 0,000. After going to Prussia he was raced with distinction. AAitli characteristic enterprise the agents of the German army sent him back to Ireland a few years ago to be kept in the stud as a sire of horses suitable for the kaisers cavalry, the purpose being to let the breeders thus raise the colts, which could be bought up when old enough for export to Prussia for military use. Just" as t!iis program of preparedness was being caried out the war was started and the British government forthwith seized the Irish race horse of German government ownership and by due process of law, confiscated him and sold him. He was bought at auction by a Dublin dealer named Rogers, from whom Air. Trimble has just purchased him.
